A company formed by north-east of Scotland aviation entrepreneurs is in talks with BA to take over BMI’s regional flights division in a deal that would secure 300 Aberdeen Airport jobs. Granite Aviation is expected to buy the regional airline this month.
There had been uncertainty over the future of BMI’s Aberdeen based regional arm after Lufthansa failed to sell it before the takeover of BMI by BA parent IAG. BMI Regional will not be integrated into BA and is 'not part of their long term plans.' Granite Aviation, led by Graeme Ross, Ian Woodley and Robert Sturman, hope to take over the airline by the end of the month.
