Birmingham Airport is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the opening of its terminal. The £29m building was opened by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh in 1984. It was one of the most modern facilities in Europe at the time.
The airport was recently granted planning permission to extend its runway, which will allow it to offer more long-haul flights. It is also building a £40m International Pier, a 3 storey building for arriving and departing passengers.
Birmingham Airport chief executive Paul Kehoe said: ‘It's poignant that at a time when we are focusing on the future, we should also be looking back to the opening of the airport’s current site.’
