Passengers at Birmingham Airport continued their recent falls in January. 521,566 passengers passed through its terminals, down 7.2 percent on last year. The figures were hit by the severe weather during the month, when the airport and others across Europe were forced to close, but details of how this affected the numbers have not been released.
Paul Kehoe, Birmingham Airport’s CEO, said: ‘2010 has begun in much the same way as 2009 ended. However, the year-on-year decrease in passengers is healthier than at many other UK airports, and we are better prepared for the economic conditions that face us, as opposed to 12 months ago.’
