Emergency landing at Bristol Airport

07.05.08

A reader tells us that there was an emergency landing at Bristol Airport yesterday. However, we have not been able to get official confirmation on this from either the airport or Thomas Cook - the airline involved.

The reader tells us that it looked like it started off as a precautionary landing but was upgraded to a full emergency on approach, from the speed of the fire engines headed for the runway. However, the pilot executed a 'text book landing' at 13:45 and the fire engines rapidly cleared the scene.

Our reader tells us that the wind was directly down the runway but the aircraft 'seemed to be crabbing on the approach' and did not appear to use full reverse thrust after landing, possibly indicating engine problems.

It is unclear which Thomas Cook Airlines flight was involved in the incident, as the nearest scheduled arrival would be from Palma at 12:35. The airline also flies from Bristol to Heraklion at 13:30, which could have been returning to the airport after a problem on take off, but 13:45 would be too quick if the plane had to dump fuel.

If you have any further information, feel free to let us know. We will update this story if the airport replies to us.
