New traffic / parking marshals at Gatwick Airport
16.04.08
New traffic marshals (wardens) will be introduced at Gatwick Airport on April 21. The airport says that the new marshals will 'help improve traffic flows and security around the perimeter roads and forecourts,' adding that they 'will provide assistance to the existing traffic wardens who enforce parking rules at Gatwick, helping to improve accessibility to the terminals'.
Fraser Brown, head of transport at Gatwick, said: 'The new marshals will provide support to the traffic wardens in maintaining the flow of traffic through our forecourts. By moving on parked vehicles and freeing up valuable drop off bays, delays for passengers will be kept to a minimum. The Marshals will redirect drivers who are not immediately dropping off passengers to our short stay car parking in order to prevent congestion.'
In other words, those trying to linger in the forecourts for a few minutes waiting for passengers (which is free), will be moved on by the new marshals to the short stay car parks (which cost £2.30 for the first 30 minutes, and rise steeply thereafter).
