Mirror highlights the increasing cost of airport parking

25.05.09

UK airport car parking costs more than ever, a survey by the Mirror found. Britain's biggest airport operator is BAA, owners of Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted, made a quarter of their profit - £154 million - from airport parking last year. A Which? spokesman told the newspaper: ‘You can save up to 60% by choosing the right car park and booking in advance.’

Heathrow charges £228.90 for two weeks car parking, up from £223.50 in 2006, while Luton Airport long stay car park costs £142.50. A fortnight at Gatwick or Stansted costs £135, compared with £124.50 3 years ago. Glasgow is still one of the cheapest at £95.80 for two weeks, but was £74.50 3 years ago. The newspaper failed to notice that Belfast International is even cheaper, and London City Airport is more expensive than Heathrow.

Which? advise holidaymakers to book online or use off-site car parks to reduce the cost. To compare the cost of both at the UK's 5 lowest cost suppliers go to www.1stairportparking.co.uk.
