BA axe Gatwick - New York flights

British Airways is to axe its Gatwick to New York flights just a year after it launched them, the airline announced yesterday. The route is being cut from October 25 'due to the economic climate' - the first and business class cabins are not generating enough income to justify continuing the flights.

The service was only launched last October. A BA spokesman said the airline will launch all business flights between New York and London City airport for the first time this autumn, and BA will also continue its nine-a-day Heathrow - New York services.

The airline also said that it will launch flights to the Maldives for the first time this winter. BA will start a 3 times a week service between Gatwick and Male in the Maldives from October 25.
