Building work celebration at Glasgow Airport

08.04.08

Glasgow Airport held a ceremony to mark a milestone in its 'Sky Hub' extension. Staff from building company Balfour Beatty joined representatives from the airport and local council to hold a 'topping out' ceremony, a traditional building celebration to recognise the the project's physical structure reaching its full height.

The £30m, 4000 square metre Sky Hub extension is to open in October and is expected to transform the passenger experience at the airport. There will be a new, purpose-built security search area to reduce waiting times, plus new bars, shops, restaurants and lounges.

The airport's managing director, Gordon Dewar, smoothed the last section of concrete for the new building and led a toast to the workers. He said: ‘With Sky Hub, everything is under one roof. No matter where you are travelling, once you've passed through security, you can eat, shop or relax anywhere in the terminal.’
