Continental has launched its mobile boarding pass service at Heathrow. The service allows passengers to receive their boarding pass electronically on their mobile phone or PDA, eliminating the need for paper boarding passes. It is the first time an airline has offered paperless boarding passes on flights from the UK to the US.
Mobile boarding passes display a two-dimensional bar code along with passenger and flight information, which scanners at security checkpoints and the gate can validate. The airline says that the technology prevents manipulation or duplication of the boarding pass and also heightens security.
An airline spokesman said: ‘We are pleased to add Heathrow to the list of airports we serve with mobile boarding passes. Our passengers have told us this is the type of product they want. We will continue to expand the technology to more of our domestic and international destinations.'
