BA add strike flights

BA has announced that further volunteers have come forward to assist it run a superior flight throughout this weekend’s threatened flight attendants strike. The carrier said it will extend its flying programme for the length of Unite’s strikes as better numbers of flight attendants have contacted the airline to offer to work in support its emergency operation, allowing it to fly a further 4000 passengers.

The carrier has said the number of flight attendants offering to work as usual has jumped considerably since Monday after it announced its revised timetable. Numbers are predicted to grow further, a spokesperson for airline said.

The number of other air carriers offering help during the strike through charters or provision of spare seats has also increased - from fifty on Monday to over 60. This has allowed the carrier to reinstate some previously cancelled flights and provide extra capacity for both long haul and short haul destinations.

The combined results of these actions is that the number of travellers to be flown will go up from 45,000 each day to 49,000.
