Luton airport launched its new 'access plan' today. It includes charging drivers £1 to use the drop off car park, and will allow passengers to reach the terminal in the most 'secure and orderly' manner possible, a spokesman said.
Changes to the way passengers access the airport are being made to cope with rising passenger numbers. The new arrangements includes a priority drop-off area, where car drivers pay £1 for 10 minutes to drop off passengers. Those not wanting to pay the charge can drop off passengers at the mid stay car park for free, but the passengers will have to take the free transfer bus (which operates every 10 minutes) for the 2 minute transfer to the terminal.
Luton Airport's new public transport interchange will also launch today. This will see coach, bus and rail shuttle services stopping outside the terminal building and a dedicated bus lane opened.
We predict chaos, with drivers simply getting as close to the terminal as possible to drop passengers off, to avoid the fee.
