A regular customer of short term parking at Luton Airport was incensed to be charged for a complete hour, despite the fact that she had only parked for 32 minutes, the Herts Advertiser reports. Mrs Alva Laskey, sixty nine, of Aldwickbury Crescent, Harpenden, also claims the times shown on her airport parking tickets do not correspond to the actual times of her arrival and departure.
Mrs Laskey visits the airport regularly to pick up and drop off her partner. She said: ‘I fully anticipated to have to pay for three quarters of an hour, as I had just gone over the half hour. However I feel it's a bit steep to have to pay £7 for the full hour. Having paid for a full hour, I drove home and was inside my house 5 minutes before the time stamped on my ticket!’
A spokesman for Luton Airport confirmed that the tariff band timings had changed from quarter-hourly intervals last August when the current operators of the car park ACPOA changed them. At present the intervals for charging within the short-term car park were 15 minute intervals and half an hour and then up to one hour and at hourly intervals after that. The clock was reset on a weekly basis to make sure it reflected the proper time as precisely as possible.
ACPOA took over administration of the car park from NCP in September 2008, however they are still owned by the airport, and we are certain that they have significant input in to the fee structure as it is a major source of income. So we are somewhat stunned that the airport appears to be passing the buck for this to its car park contractor.
