A historic cottage facing demolition to make way for a new freight hangar next to Manchester Airport has been granted a stay of execution - because of the the recession - the Manchester Evening News reports.
The airport had planned to pull down 400-year-old Rose Cottage on Hasty Lane, Ringway, to build a new giant cargo hangar. But after the hangar's tenant pulled out blaming the recession, the project has been put on hold.
A spokesman for the airport confirmed it has shelved the proposed £20m extension until 'confidence returns to that market'. A larger 196,000sq ft hangar will still be built on an adjacent site. The cottage will be dismantled and rebuilt nearby when the project does go ahead.
