Germanwings is to launch new 5 times a week flights between Manchester Airport and Cologne/Bonn from October. The budget airline already operates the route from Stansted year round and Edinburgh and Dublin each summer.
The new Manchester route is part of a focus on the business market, with more than 40 percent of the airline’s customers are now corporate travellers. Germanwings CEO Thomas Winkelmann said: ‘This route is important for us. Manchester has one of the fastest growing economies in Britain, and by launching flights connecting it directly with Cologne/Bonn, we hope to tap into a major business market that will continue to grow rapidly.’
‘At the same time we expect the route to be extremely popular with leisure travellers, who will able to visit Germany’s oldest city, Cologne, and connect to over 60 other European destinations quickly and efficiently via our hub at the airport.’
