Manchester Airport's saw private jet passenger numbers fall by almost 80% in May, Crain’s reports. Private jet movements have fallen by more than a quarter in the last 12 months, while movements in May were down by 34%.
The price of fuel, tighter corporate budgets and a desire to avoid being seen as extravagant have all contributed to the slump, the operators of the airport's private terminal said, but a hard core of the super rich are still using their jets despite the downturn.
Natalie Raper, marketing director of Ocean Sky Jet Centre Ltd, which runs the airport's private terminal, told the newspaper things are ‘tough’. She said the banking crisis had been one of the key factors behind the fall, but is hopeful of an upturn in 2010.
