Passengers going on holiday are being urged to ‘get it right before your flight’. As the busy summer holiday is in to full swing, a Stansted Airport survey revealed passengers are still struggling with hand luggage rules and what can and cannot be taken onto the plane. 5 years after the restrictions on liquids were introduced, each day on average 20 household waste bins are filled at the security search point with prohibited or restricted items.
Of those stopped carrying restricted items, 87% said they believed they knew the regulations, just under a third said they had forgotten their hand luggage contained liquids, and 17% were using the wrong-size liquids bags. 16% said they did not know the rejected item was classed as a liquid and 10% did not realise it was necessary to take the liquids bag out of their hand luggage.
Stansted Airports’s head of terminal, John Farrow, said: ‘We realise many people only fly once a year and may be confused about what they can and cannot take through airport security. We want to help passengers get it right and avoid unnecessary delays for all. It is vital they prepare correctly before setting off for the airport. We would encourage all passengers to take some time to understand the security regulations and follow our easy tips to enjoy a stress-free start to their holidays.’
