A 70 year old man caught trying to smuggle cocaine worth £120,000 into the UK via Stansted Airport has been jailed for 8 years. Siegfried Milchberger attempted to smuggle in the drugs in his luggage, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
The Austrian national was stopped at Stansted on December 19 last year after arriving on a flight from Vienna via Hanover. His luggage was examined and when one of the bags was emptied, the base of appeared thicker that normal. The empty bag was also heavier than would have been expected.
A package was discovered concealed between the struts of the trolley handle containing 3kg of cocaine with a street value of around £120,000. Mr Milchberger, who had been living in Kenya, was charged with importing the Class A drug and was jailed for 8 years yesterday.
