BAA has written to communities minister Hazel Blears, asking for a delay to the public inquiry into plans for a second runway at Stansted, New Civil Engineer reports. The request comes after BAA announced that it is to appeal the Competition Commission’s ruling that it must sell Gatwick, Stansted and either Edinburgh or Glasgow airport by 2011.
The inquiry had already been put back once, but was penciled in for a September start. This timing meant that it was unlikely to be finished and a decision made before the general election next year, with the Conservatives already promising to block the new runway if they win power.
