Upgraded Stansted Fire Station opened

Stansted Airport has invested in improving its fire-fighting capabilities, with £1m spend on a new fire station and 3 state-of-the-art vehicles. At a special ceremony held last week, BAA chief executive Colin Matthews cut a ribbon to herald the opening of the new station, which features additional parking bays to house a new Scania domestic appliance, an incident command vehicle and a medical support trailer.

Stewart Wingate, the airport's managing director, said: ‘Our fire department offers a world-class service, protecting millions of passengers who pass through this airport every year and the thousands of staff who work on site.'

‘To continue to offer our excellent response times, we have invested in new cutting-edge technology that will ensure the service is equipped to deal with any incident at the airport for decades to come.’
